Maren & Nick

Here at the Studio, we like to gush. About the details, about our favorite vendors, about all the fun we are lucky enough to have while on the “job”. But far and away our favorite thing to gush about has got to be our clients. We love, love LOVE our clients. Maren and Nick are absolutely no exception.

Their wedding day was perfection all bottled up in a lovely little vial. Maren glowed. Nick was SO dapper. The entire day was palpably immersed in their happiness. And we couldn’t have been more glad to be a part of it.

In terms of personal, heartfelt ceremonies, Maren and Nick’s backyard nuptials are hard-pressed to beat. Equal parts stunning and sweet, everything from the beautiful textural floral, to the drink station with matching straws, to the perfect stadium-style seating that Maren’s parent’s backyard offered, were unique and beautiful without trying too hard.

The easy, understated perfection of the day carried over into their Reception at Strawbale Winery. Beige linens with ivory lace overlays covered the tables, with simple clear glassware holding more textural white and ivory floral. Strands of bistro lights twinkled throughout the tent, and a garland of tonal fabric strips brought additional color to the white ceiling.

One of our favorite elements from Maren and Nick’s big day, was the heart-shaped motif that decorated everything from their fabric-pocket invitations to the custom labels on the wine bottles. Maren, an elementary school teacher, had one of her students create the design, and then asked us to help incorporate the look into their Big Day. You know customization is our favorite around here, so we were so happy to oblige. The finished product was even cuter than we could have hoped for!

Many thanks to Maren & Nick for allowing us to join them on their special day, as well as all the awesome vendors we are so lucky to work with again and again!

Kaitlyn & Ryan | Sioux Falls Wedding Planning

If our 2013 weddings were ranked by the amount of fun that we had while planning, Kaitlyn & Ryan’s day would undoubtedly land among the top contenders.

From the bride’s poppy and preppy cool-girl style, to the first-class line up of vendors we got to work with, this day was the Studio-darling of a wedding from beginning to end. But the true cherry-on-top was undoubtedly the enviable relationship between Kaitlyn and her mother Kirsten. These two, I tell you, they KNOW how to have fun. And they were just SO.EXCITED to make the Big Day special and unique to the couple. For us at the Studio, an attitude like that is the double shot of espresso in our macchiato; we LIVE for this stuff.

To bring the day together, we started with a classic, slightly vintage-inspired aesthetic (drawing from the bride’s gorgeous lace dress), added a healthy dose of over-the-top garden-style floral (HELL-O super gorg peonies!), and finished things off with a sprinkling of funky and fun Kate Spade inspired details (polka dots, confetti, glitter and sequin – to name a few). An absolutely stunning cake, and some sweet tunes from none other than DJ Jer himself (this guy knows how to fill a dance floor!) were the finishing touches for a truly amazing day.

Kaitlyn and Ryan, if you guys want to make this an annual thing… just let us know. We’re 100% on board!

Rachel & Andrew | South Dakota Wedding

While by the time the Big Day rolls around, most of our couples have come to FEEL like our oldest of friends, every once in a while we have the unique opportunity to work with a bride or groom that actually IS.

Rachel and I (Amy here!) go back to our collegiate days, where we were in the same class at Creighton University (Go Bluejays!) From our first encounter, it was clear that Rachel was destined for BIG things. She is driven, hard working, intelligent, and also extremely kind, in the most truly genuine way. After meeting Andrew, it was clear that he was the perfect compliment to Rachel —   steady, supportive, and a dynamic force in his own right. Oh, and did I mention they’re both stunningly attractive? (Hello, gorgeous couple portraits!)

I couldn’t have been more honored to help with their Big Day, which so epitomized Rachel and Andrew as a couple: East Coast (they now live in Washington DC) meets Midwest, with an air of sophistication and fun. The nautical touches (a nod to the Mighty Mo’ that served as the impressive backdrop to their festivities) were the perfect accent to a celebration that can only be described as “Classic” – in the very best way.

My absolute favorite moment from the day came at the start of the dance. As the first few notes of the DJ’s song floated through the air, an excited buzz filled the tent. A few shouts and scrambling was heard as several dozen guests, members of the wedding party, family members and the bride and groom themselves took to the dance floor in perfect union to perform a flash-mob style choreographed dance number for delighted (and stunned!) guests. It was thrilling and clever and just SO.FUN. — the perfect ending to a truly wonderful day.

Cheri & Eli | Sioux Falls Wedding Print + Planning + Decor

Our story with Cheri and Eli begins way back in July of 2012. We first met the couple via Skype from their home in Boston, and were instantly smitten with Cheri’s warm and bubbly personality and the way Eli was so kind and clearly over-the-moon for Cheri. Then, once Cheri started describing their vision for the day, and words like Roaring 20’s, “The Artist“, and Live Big Band were thrown our way, we were pretty much happy dancing in our seats!

With the bride’s selection of an awesomely chic and totally unexpected color palette of Poppy Red and Peacock Blue, we pretty much couldn’t go wrong. To accent the colors we added in bits of crystal and mirrored elements in the form of waterfall tabletop chandeliers and custom mirrored signage. Vintage pieces like antique champagne buckets and cigar boxes took on a new life as vessels for the gorgeous red, pink and orange floral arrangements, which were accented with custom-dyed ivory ostrich feathers. A running motif of a Sunburst Shape popularized by Art Deco architecture was the final touch, which was added in the form of custom die-cut wedding programs and table numbers, fan-folded napkins at each place-setting, and the over-the-top-gorgeous three-tiered cake.

The Eleventh Hour element that totally stole the show, however? The classic 1946 Nash Sedan, in the most perfect shade of blue-green, that wisked the couple from their outdoor park ceremony to their eagerly awaiting guests. (Talk about an epic photo prop!)

Cheri & Eli, we could not have been more honored to be a part of your Big Day. It was such fun to witness your love in person, and the party was a BASH that truly rivaled those of Gatsby himself!

Barbara & Aaron | South Dakota Wedding

For anyone who is lucky enough to have met Barbara in person, one look at these photographs from 283 Photography will quickly show just how much of her heart, love and personality were poured into her wedding day. But for those of you who’ve not yet had the privilege, when Barbara walks into a room, she is a burst of sunshine, a rainbow of colorful personality, all with an added dash of quirk — just to keep things interesting!

To echo that sentiment, Barbara and Aaron’s day was brimming with colorful handmade and heart-felt touches. Tables dressed in white linens were set off with a rainbow of graphic runners and colorfully framed table numbers. Clear vessels of citrus fruit – lemons, limes and clementines – also added a modern touch. White floral arrangements, each of a single type of flower, added texture and softness to the tables, while still keeping the look clean and streamlined. And wherever possible, a whimsical motif of colorful bunting was added as a finishing touch.

To celebrate and embrace the early morning time frame, Barbara and Aaron served an awesome assortment of breakfast fare (bacon and waffles and eggs – oh my!), paired with a coffee bar and Bloody Mary Station, and kept guests entertained with an impressive collection of board games and an all-guest BINGO tournament (complete with a vintage-style ball cage!). Because Aaron’s proposal to Barbara involved a certain strategic box of cupcakes, the day wouldn’t have been complete without several dozen of the most delicious sounding flavors we’d ever encountered. (Maple Bacon cupcakes for the win!)

Many thanks to Barbara and Aaron for allowing us to be a small part of your special day!
